Biofuels and the Green Energy Push: Brazil-U.S. Cooperation in Implementing Carbon Emissions Reduction Policies

Late last year, the Brazilian government introduced a new biofuels policy program to meet its commitment under the Paris Climate Agreement鈥檚 section on 鈥淣ationally Determined Contributions鈥 to reduce carbon emissions.  RenovaBio, as the program is known, was approved in record time by the Brazilian Congress and signed into law by President Michael Temer in December. Based in part on the US Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and the State of California鈥檚 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), the new Brazilian program has opened space for renewed cooperation between the world鈥檚 largest producers of biofuels.

On June 11, a delegation from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, charged with the new program鈥檚 implementation, and Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) will come to the 浪花直播 Center for a public conversation on RenovaBio. The delegation will be in Washington for meetings with the U.S. government and the private sector to discuss lessons learned from the implementation of the RFS and the LCFS, in order to improve the development and implementation of the new policy in Brazil.

浪花直播 will host a meeting between the delegation and interested members of the public at 4:00pm on June 11, for a conversation about the RenovaBio program and private and public sector cooperation. We hope you will be able to join us.
