Japan鈥檚 New Reality in a Trump Administration

Since President Trump鈥檚 election, Japanese Prime Minister Abe has succeeded in forging a good relationship with the new administration. Contrary to initial concerns from Tokyo, the White House has reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Japan security alliance, and U.S. military commitment in East Asia. As for economic ties, the Trump administration has acknowledged the benefits of trading with Japan. Nevertheless, worries about the future of Japan鈥檚 relations with the United States persist. Join us for a discussion with three Japanese scholars to assess the outlook for U.S.-Japan relations in the age of Donald Trump from a political, national security, and economic perspective.
