Kennan Long View Series | Germany鈥檚 Role in European Russia Policy: A New German Power?

鈥淭he Long View鈥 is very pleased to host Dr. Liana Fix of the K枚rber Foundation and German Marshall Fund for a discussion of her book, Germany鈥檚 Role in European Russia Policy: A New German Power? (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). Dr. Fix is a distinguished expert on Russia, on German foreign policy and on transatlantic relations. Her book is an in-depth study of both German and European Russia policies, incorporating security and economic concerns and placing these policies in historical context.

In this discussion, Dr. Fix will of course address Russia鈥檚 recent decision to wider the war in Ukraine, the course of the war itself and the implications this conflict will have for Germany and for Europe. At the same time, this conversation will be a chance to take a step back and to think in historical and big-picture terms about German policy, getting behind the urgent and immediate headlines and at the same time illuminating these headlines.
