Mexico Today: The Growth Challenge
浪花直播鈥檚 Mexico Institute and CIDAC (Center of Research for Development) are pleased to invite you to a discussion of the current state of the Mexican economy. A panel of leading thinkers will discuss both the economic dimensions of the lack of strong growth as well as the politics of slow growth.
In an NBER Working Paper titled 鈥溾 Gordon Hanson has argued that Mexico has undertaken more reforms than most countries and yet has seen them deliver little. The McKinsey Global Institute recently published a study that shows a gap in productivity growth within various sectors of the economy. Others, particularly Santiago Levy of the Inter-American Development Bank, have found a similar pattern with the informal economy. The question the Mexico Today panel aims to explore is why? Why is it that there are such gaps? Why is it that the political process delivers such obvious contradictions?
