Why are Thousands of Central American Children Risking their Lives to Reach the United States?: A View from Honduras
The alarming number of unaccompanied minors from Central America arriving at the United States border is raising questions about what is compelling families and children to set out on such a risky journey north when their future in the United States is so uncertain. With Honduran children representing the largest number of unaccompanied minors arriving at the U.S. border, understanding the current security and political context there is particularly important. Join us for a discussion with our special Honduran guests to examine the underlying factors contributing to the increased migration, what the new Honduran government is doing to respond to their country鈥檚 security crisis, and how the legacy of the 2009 coup may be an additional factor.
