So this decision by the Romanian Constitutional Court is unprecedented. It has never happened before that a Western court would annul a result of the elections in such a way and also order a rerun of the elections. 

This definitely puts Romania in a state of political instability, especially because this decision came out two days before the second round of the elections was supposed to happen. Of course there is controversy around this decision with some saying this undermines Romanian democracy and some others saying that this is safeguarding Romanian democracy to ensure that the next presidential elections will be done in accordance or in compliance with all the appropriate measures. 

Russian interference in Romania should not come as a surprise. We've seen similar efforts a couple of weeks ago in Moldova and in Georgia, where both of their futures in the European Union were at stake. And Romania is an important NATO ally, also an important stable member of the European Union. And such political instability more broadly also affects European Union stability, especially when it comes to support for Ukraine. 

We know that Romania has a very strategic position in the Black Sea, and it's also very important in terms of military support, but also in terms of supporting Ukrainians fleeing the war. The situation in Romania should also sound alarm bells for Europe and the European Union. 

When it comes to Russian interference, Russian disinformation,  I think this is a clear sign for Europe to take decisive steps and enforce measures to counter these attempts, especially considering that we have another round of very important elections coming up in February, which is the German parliamentary elections.
